Request
The Town of Bozrah is asking for a letter of support from The Montville Planning andZoning Commission to receive funding under CT DEEP Open Space and WatershedAcquisition (OSWA) Program. The funds will be used to purchase the Glemboski/Ousproperty. The property in Montville is 55+/- acres, Bozrah property is 105 +/- acres and
together are 160 +/- acres of forested property.
The acquisition will expand the open space area within the Trading Cove BrookWatershed area, increasing recreational opportunities for the community, secure wildlifeareas and allow for future expansions of a trail systems into the Milo Light Preserve.
Together with The Nature Conservancy’s 338 acres Milo Light Preserve this acquisitionwill protect high-quality drinking water sources critical to Southeastern Connecticut.Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) reports that it is vitally important as it serves nearly
40,000 people in the surrounding area. NPU states this potential acquisition will ensurequality and quantity water to the community for years to come.
The access point will be from 102 South Rd in Bozrah. Additional access, if the trails area
expanded, could also be from Route 82.
Currently the property is located within the job investment area of the POCD but this areais proposed to be changed with the Plan of Conservation and Development update.
The purchase price of the property is $400,000 with 65% of that underwritten by theOSWA grant.
Draft Motion
The Town of Montville Planning and Zoning Commission supports the Town of Bozrah’s effort to obtain a CT DEEP Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant to acquire the Bertha Glemboki & Bety J Ous Estate property (062-003-000), +/- 55 acres in Oakdale, Connecticut.
This acquisition will expand the open space area of the Trading Cove Brook Watershed, allowing for permanent protection of drinking water source along with increasing recreational opportunities for the community, secure wildlife areas and allow for future expansions of a trail systems into the Milo Light Preserve. The property will be in conformance with the updated Plan of Conservation and Development.
