SHALL CONFORM TO THE CURRENT 1 1EDTON REVISION O THEHE TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOROR SUBSURFACE SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS
REVISED JANUARY 1, 2018 OF THE CONNECTICUT PUBLIC HEALTH CODE BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH.
2. THE PROPOSED SEWER PIPE FROM THE BUILDING TO THE SEPTIC TANK SHALL BE SCHEDULE 40 PVC ASTM D 17851ASTM D 2665 OR
APPROVED EQUAL AND INDICATED IN TABLE NO. 2 OF "TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR SUBSURFACE SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS". ALL OTHER
SEWER PIPE FOR THIS SEPTIC SYSTEM SHALL BE 4" PVC ASTM 03034, SDR 35 (TIGHT PIPE) WITH RUBBER COMPRESSION GASKET OR
BELL AND SPIGOT OR APPROVED EQUAL. IF THE CHANGE IN DIRECTION OF THE BUILDING SEWER LINE IS 945 DEGREES, CLEANOUTS TO
GRADE WILL BE REQUIRED.
3. THERE ARE NO ACTIVE WELLS (POTABLE, GEOTHERMAL, OR IRRIGATION) WITHIN 75' OF THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM. THE EXISTING
DUG WELL SHALL BE ABANDONED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE 'STATE OF CONNECTICUT WELL DRILLER'S REGULATIONS" LATEST REVISION
AND BE VERIFIED BY THE UNCAS HEALTH DISTRICT:

ENCOUNTERED DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM, IT SHALL BE REMOVED TO A MINIMUM OF 5' ON ANY SIDE
OF THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM. IF THE ORIGINAL SEPTIC SYSTEM IS ENCOUNTERED DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW SEPTIC
SYSTEM, IT SHALL BE REMOVED WITHIN 10' OF THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM AND DISPOSED OF AT A LOCATION APPROVED BY THE
UNCAS HEALTH DISTRICT.
5. ALL EXISTING UTILITIES ARE APPROXIMATE ONLY. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL UTILITY LOCATIONS AND ELEVATIONS PRIOR TO ANY
CONSTRUCTION. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT "CALL -BEFORE -YOU -DIG" AT 1-800-922-4455 AT LEAST 48 HOURS PRIOR TO ANY

6. THE PROPOSED SELECT SEPTIC FILL FOR THIS SEPTIC SYSTEM SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS.-

A. 100% OF THE SELECT FILL SHALL PASS THROUGH A 3" SIEVE
B. UP TO 4594 OF THE DRY WEIGHT MAY BE RETAINED (GRAVEL PORTION) MAY BE RETAINED ON THE 14 SIEVE.
C. GRADATION OF FILL PASSING THE #4 SIEVE (WITHOUT THE GRAVEL) SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA,

9. THE SEPTIC TANK SHALL BE PRECAST CONCRETE. THE PROPOSED TUB IS 100 GALLONS.
10, SITE PREPARATION PROCEDURE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM:
A. CONTACT THE UNCAS HEALTH DISTRICT AND COORDINATE CONSTRUCTION INSPECTIONS AS REQUIRED. INSTALL ALL EROSION
CONTROL MEASURES.
B. STRIP ALL TOPSOIL, VEGETATION AND ORGANIC MATERIAL IN THE AREA OF AND 5' SURROUNDING THE PROPOSED LEACHING
TRENCHES.
C. USING A HEAVY RAKE OR EQUAL, THOROUGHLY SCARIFY AND ROUGHEN UP THE EXPOSED SUBSOIL, PREVENT ANY
VEHICULAR TRAFFIC, BACKHOE, TRUCKS, ETC. FROM SMOOTHING/COMPACTING THIS EXPOSED SUBSOIL.
D. PLACE AND COMPACT SELECT FILL MATERIAL (AS REQUIRED) MEETING SPECIFICATIONS INDICATED ABOVE (NOTE 6) IN LIFTS OF
NOT GREATER THAN 12" IN THE AREA OF THE PROPOSED LEACHING TRENCHES UP TO AT LEAST THE ELEVATION OF THE TOP OF
THE LEACHING TRENCHES.
E. PERFORM AT LEAST 1 PERCOLATION TEST ON PLACED FILL. FILL MUST HAVE A PERCOLATION RATE EQUAL TO OR FASTER
THAN THAT AS INDICATED IN NOTE 6.E. IF PERCOLATION RATE IS SLOWER THAN THAT RATE, ALL FILL SHALL BE
REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH ACCEPTABLE FILL MEETING PROPER SPECIFICATIONS.
F. INSTALL. SEPTIC SYSTEM PER PLAN USING APPROVED STONE AGGREGATE AS INDICATED IN NOTE 17.
G. COVER SYSTEM WITH A MINIMUM OF 6" OF TOPSOIL IN LAWN AREAS, GRADE TO PREVENT PONDING AND SEED WITH GRASS
TO STABILIZE THE FINISHED GRADE 10' FROM ANY PART OF THE PROPOSED LEACHING TRENCHES SHALL BE AT LEAST THE SAME
ELEVATION AS THE TOP OF THE RESPECTIVE LEACHING TRENCH,
H. CLEANOUT MANHOLES AT THE INLET BAFFLE AND AT THE OUTLET FILTER OF THE SEPTIC TANK OR ASSOCIATED RISERS AT THESE
LOCATIONS, IF REQUIRED, SHALL BE LOCATED AT A DEPTH NOT GREATER THAN 12" BELOW FINAL GRADE.
11. THE PROPOSED HOUSE, WELL AND SEPTIC SYSTEM SHALL BE STAKED OUT BY A LICENSED LAND SURVEYOR PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
12. THE OWNER AND HIS CONTRACTOR ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR INSURING THE SEPTIC SYSTEM INSTALLATION COMPLIES WITH SEPTIC
REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BY STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS.
13. FOR EXACT BUILDING DIMENSIONS, SEE BUILDING PLANS.
14. THE LICENSED INSTALLER WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE SEPTIC SYSTEM SHALL BE ON SITE DURING THE
CONSTRUCTION OF THE SEPTIC SYSTEM.
15. THE SEPTIC TANK SHALL BE SET LEVEL ON A MINIMUM OF 6" OF PROCESSED AGGREGATE OR BROKEN STONE BASED ON COMPACTED
SUBGRADE ALL COMPACTION SHALL BE 95.4 MODIFIED PROCTOR DENSITY. BACKFILL AROUND SEPTIC TANK SHALL BE PLACED AND
COMPACTED IN 6" LIFTS TO 95% MODIFIED PROCTOR DENSITY. FILL TANK WITH WATER TO DISCHARGE OUTLET PIPE LEVEL AFTER
ACCEPTANCE.
