Walls on North area of property
While removing the Debris pile in the northern parking area, we uncovered a deteriorating wall, that
was not shown on the plans. (shown in pictures 1-3)
We also uncovered a portion of the wall that was to be protected that has also been deteriorating. On
the plans it is shown connected and the same height, in the field there are some disconnects and
definite height differences. (shown in pictures 4-7)
We suggest removing the Uncovered wall section found under the debris pile (on Picture 1) and the
small section of the wall (on picture 5) that is not connected to the rest.
Please advise.

Field Report

Present:-
We examined the condition of existing stone retaining walls on site.
A majority of the walls are in acceptable condition with little visible movement or loss of material.
A few of the walls appear to have been dry-laid and then pointed on the exposed face. The pointing
is in poor condition on these, but this is of cosmetic concern only.
The long wall running east-west to west of Building A has a section near its west end that is
bulging and no longer straight. The movement is significant. This wall should be rebuilt or
otherwise stabilized or repaired. The parallel wall to north of this is buried and could not be
examined.
The wall running north from the north-west corner of Building A bulges slightly. This wall should
be repaired, or closely monitored.
The wall to the south of the south-west corner of Building A has a slight lean to it. This wall should
be closely monitored.
The wall between Building G and the raceway is missing several stones. Some of these are at the
base of the wall and appear to have to have been lost due to scour or erosion. This wall should be
repaired as soon as possible as the missing stones provide a weak point subject to further damage.
The stone wall which forms the east end of the retaining wall which runs east from the north-east
corner of building F is leaning outward at the top at the east end. This wall should be rebuilt or the
area regraded and the wall removed.
We conducted visual observations only; we did not remove any stones and we could not verify the
thickness of any of the walls. Without knowledge of the size of the stones, it is not possible to
analyze the strength of walls or predict their performance more accurately than just noting when
they have moved. Many walls in conditions similar to those described above stay in service for
many years without trouble. Others fail. Careful monitoring is required for all of the walls on site.
