FROM: Laurence P. Eiden,Jr.
DATE July 28,2020
SUBJECT: 612 Route 82
Good day Ms.Vlaun
I am writing to express some concerns with the site proposal submitted for 612 Norwich Salem Tpke
(Route 82) by Shahani, Inc.of Branford. I am the abutting property owner on all sides and have owned
my property since 1991.
I realize progress and change are inevitable and my comments are not intended to stop that movement.
I have reviewed the application and available comments from the various parties and offer the
following.
1. The fence in question that will be"refurbished"was installed a few years ago by the
dealer/sublessor Rinaldi, I believe as part of his agreement with Shahani. It falls short of the
original installed privacy fence approved by the town in 1987 and on record. (Plan showing
property of Getty Petroleum, Inc. March 3, 1987). Specifically, the fence is short on both ends
by at least a section, possibly two or three. Reference can be made to the original map on file in
the planning office which shows the fence extending to the lighting fixtures. I would ask that
the applicant be required to extended the fence to the original approved length.
2. I am concerned that any replacement and or new lighting would be intrusive to myself and
surrounding residential neighbors, especially in the Winter months when leaves are off the
trees. New LED and high intensity lighting could easily make the site much brighter than needed
for either function, safety or security. Lighting directed downward and not laterally projecting
should help and is requested.
The corporate property owners, Leemilt's are absentee owners from New York. The current lessee,
Shahnai has no vested interest, nor ties to the community. It is my understanding this is one of several
sites he has under lease from Leemilt's.The dealer, Rinaldi is a local resident but could walk away from
the lease at any time.As such, I believe this is the time to establish the requirements for the property
and produce a site that protects the needs of the community.
Respectfully submitted,
Laurence P. Eiden,Jr.
