THE SEPTIC SYSTEM IS TO BE CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO THE CONNECTICUT PUBLIC HEALTH CODE REGULATIONS AND TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR SUBSURFACE SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS. 2. THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM SHALL SERVE A THREE (3) BEDROOM HOUSE WITH NO LARGE TUBS. THE PERCOLATION TEST YIELDED A RATE OF 12 MINUTES PER INCH, A RATE OF 10.1 TO 20 MIN/INCH HAS BEEN USED FOR DESIGN PURPOSES. THIS REQUIRES 675 SF OF EFFECTIVE LEACHING AREA. THE PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM IS AS FOLLOWS: 1,000 GALLON SEPTIC TANK AND 1 ROW OF 40' & 36' LONG 48"x48" LEACHING GALLERIES. LEACHING AREA PROVIDED = 76 LF x 9.2 SF/LF= 699 EFFECTIVE SF. A 100% RESERVE AREA IS PROVIDED. MLSS (PER UNCAS HEALTH DISTRICT) = 24 x 1.5 x 1.5 = 54 LF (76 LF PROVIDED). 3. PROPOSED HOUSE SEWER SHALL BE PVC SCHEDULE 40 ASTM D 1785. ALL OTHER SEWER PIPE FOR THE SEPTIC SYSTEM SHALL BE 4" PVC ASTM D3033 OR D3034 WITH RUBBER COMPRESSION GASKET BELL AND SPIGOT OR APPROVED EQUAL, EXCEPT FOR LEACHING FIELD PIPING LOCATED WITHIN THE LIMITS OF DRIVEWAY, WHICH SHALL BE SDR -35 HIGH STRENGTH PVC. 4. THERE ARE NO WELLS WITHIN 75 LF OF THE SEPTIC SYSTEM. 5. THERE SHALL BE NO CUTS WITHIN 50 LF OF THE DOWNHILL SIDE OF THE SYSTEM OR WITHIN 25 LF OF THE SIDES OF THE SYSTEM. THERE SHALL BE NO STUMPS OR BOULDERS BURIED WITHIN 50 LF OF THE DOWNHILL SIDE OF THE SYSTEM. 6. SHOULD ANY SIGNIFICANT VARIATIONS FROM TEST HOLE DATA SHOWN (LEDGE, WATER, MOTTLING, SOIL TYPE) BE DISCOVERED BY THE CONTRACTOR, THE ENGINEER SHALL BE NOTIFIED PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION OF THE SYSTEM. 7. ALL EXISTING UTILITIES ARE APPROXIMATE ONLY. IT IS THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY ALL LOCATIONS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. "CALL BEFORE YOU DIG" SHALL BE NOTIFIED PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION (1-800-922-4455). 8. SITE PREPARATION PROCEDURE: A. INSTALL SILT FENCE FOR SEDIMENTATION CONTROL AS SHOWN ON PLAN. B. PLACE AND COMPACT SELECT FILL MATERIAL IN AREA UP TO ELEVATION OF THE TOPS OF THE LEACHING GALLERIES. C. INSTALL GALLERIES PER PLAN. D. INSTALL 6" OF LOAM, GRADE TO PREVENT PONDING AND SEED WITH GRASS TO STABILIZE. E. ALL TOPSOIL IN THE FILL AREA OF THE PROPOSED PRIMARY SYSTEM SHALL BE REMOVED AND THE SOIL SHALL BE SCARIFIED PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF FILL. F. STRIP TOPSOIL IN AREA OF AND 5 FEET SURROUNDING PRIMARY SEPTIC SYSTEM. 9. THE SELECT FILL SHALL BE COMPRISED OF CLEAN SAND AND GRAVEL, FREE FROM ORGANIC MATTER AND FOREIGN SUBSTANCES AND IT SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: A. THE FILL SHALL NOT CONTAIN ANY MATERIAL LARGER THAN THREE (3) INCHES. B. UP TO 45% OF THE DRY WEIGHT OF THE REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE MAY BE RETAINED ON THE N0. 4 SIEVE (THIS IS THE GRAVEL PORTION OF THE SAMPLE). C. THE MATERIAL THAT PASSES THE NO. 4 SIEVE SHALL BE REWEIGHED AND THE SIEVE ANALYSIS STARTED. D. THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE SAMPLE SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING GRADATION CRITERIA: SIS E PERCENT PASSING NO. 4 100% NO. 10 70%-100% NO. 40 10%-50% (SEE NOTE BELOW) NO. 100 0%-20% NO. 200 0%-5% NOTE: PERCENT PASSING THE NO. 40 SIEVE CAN BE INCREASED TO 75% IF THE PERCENT PASSING THE NO. 100 SIEVE DOES NOT EXCEED 10% AND THE NO. 200 SIEVE DOES NOT EXCEED 5% THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPARATION OF THE LEACHING AREA USING SELET FILL AND SHALL PROTECT THE UNDERLYING NATIVE SOILS FROM OVERCOMPACT10N AND SILTATION. NARRATIVE: THIS PROJECT INVOLVES THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RESIDENTIAL LOT CONSISTING OF HOUSE, WELL, DRIVEWAY AND THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW SEPTIC SYSTEM. THE LOT SIZE IS 14,000 SF (0.32 ACRE). THERE ARE NO REGULATED WETLANDS ON THE PROPERTY. SILT FENCE WILL BE INSTALLED DOWN GRADIENT OF ALL CONSTRUCTION AREAS PRIOR TO CONSTRUC110N. TOPSOIL SHALL BE STOCKPILED ON SITE, SURROUNDED BY SEDIMENT FENCE AND SEEDED WITH RYE GRASS DURING CONSTRUCTION. IT IS THE INTENT OF THESE PLANS TO STABILIZE ALL DISTURBED AREAS AS SOON AS PRACTICABI_L AND ESTABLISH VEGETATION OR INSTALL THE PARTICULAR COVER PROVIDED. ALL MEASURES SHALL BE INSPECTED ON A WEEKLY BASIS BY THE DESIGNATED ON-SITE AGENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CORRECT ANY PROBLEM AREAS OR FAILURES OF THE EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION SYSTEMS. EVALUATE PROPOSED COVER MAMS,,ll�l, BEFORE SPREADING PROPOSED COVER MATERIAL OVER THE DESIGNATED AREA, OBTAIN A REPRESENTATIVE SOIL SAMPLE AND SUBMIT TO A REPUTABLE SOIL TESTING LABORATORY FOR CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL ANALYSIS. THIS PRELIMINARY TEST IS NECESSARY TO DETERMINE THE REQUIRED INORGANIC AND/OR ORGANIC AMENDMENTS THAT ARE NEEDED TO ASSIST IN ESTABLISHING THE SEED MIXTURE IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY AND ECONOMICALLY SOUND MANNER. THE RESULTS WILL GIVE THE COVER MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS PH AND FERTILIZATION NEEDS. THESE RESULTS SHALL BE KEPT ON-SITE BY THE CONTRACTOR AND AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW BY THE TOWN. SEED BED PREPARATION PROPOSED COVER MATERIAL SHOULD BE SPREAD EVENLY OVER THE SITE AREA IN A MINIMUM 4" LIFT VIA BULLDOZER/BUCKET LOADER. USING THE INFORMATION FROM THE SOIL ANALYSIS, CAREFULLY CALCULATE THE QUANTITIES OF LIMESTONE AND PRE -PLANT FERTILIZER NEEDED PRIOR TO APPLYING. PRE -PLANT AMENDMENTS CAN BE APPLIED WITH A BROADCAST AND/OR DROP SEEDER AND INCORPORATED WITH AN OFFSET DISK, YORK RAKE, AND/OR HAND RAKE. AFTER INCORPORATING THE PRE -PLANT SOIL AMENDMENTS, THE SEED BED SHOULD BE SMOOTH AND FIRM PRIOR TO SEEDING. THE FOLLOWING SEED MIXTURES SHALL BE USED AS NOTED: IN 71 1 .4t SEED TIME AND METHOD THE PREFERRED TIME FOR SEEDING THE COOL SEASON MIXTURE IS LATE SUMMER.
