-Retaining wall units and installation shall conform to the Allan Block Modular Retaining Wall Systems
Specification Guidelines,Geogrid Reinforcement Systems Specification Guidelines,and Water Management
Specification Guidelines as published in the AB Spec Book,ABENG.M4-00.
2-Hydrostatic loading is not considered in this analysis. Sufficient drainage must be provided such that
hydrostatic loading(pore pressure)does not develop in the reinforced zone.
3-Analysis assumes fill placement in 8 inch lifts compacted to 90%standard proctor. Compaction test
frequency shall be determined by the engineer or as otherwise specified.
4-Global stability and seismic loading are not considered in this design.
5-Wall design utilizes the following strength parameters:

6-This design is preliminary and is intended for quantities estimation.
Surface Drainage Notes
7-Rainfall and other water sources such as irrigation activities can be defined as surface water. The retaining
wall design shall take into consideration the management of this water.
8-Site grading shall be designed to route surface water around and away from the wall.
9-The internal drainage system of the retaining wall is designed to remove incidental water that infiltrates
into the soil behind the wall. Adequate storm water drainage systems are required to completely drain the area
around the retaining wall structure.
10-Drain piping should be located at the back of the rock drain field behind the wall as close to the bottom of the
wall as allowed while still maintaining a positive gradient for drainage to daylight,or to a storm water management
system.
11 -A heel drain may be required at back of the cut to route water away from the reinforced soil mass during the
construction process.
12-Ground water can be present within the soil due to surface infiltration or water table fluctuation. If ground
water is encountered during construction,an adequate drainage system must be installed or the wall design must
consider the presence of water within the soil mass.
13-All water collection devices such as roof downspouts,storm sewers,and curb gutters must be designed to accommodate
maximum flow rates and outlet outside the retaining wall area.
14-Retaining walls in conditions that allow standing water to overlap the wall face are considered water applications.
These walls require specific design and construction steps to ensure performance.

Dear Mr. David Gilmore,
This letter is to inform you that you are to cease from any further work on the retaining wall on
29 Powerhouse Road, in Uncasville, Connecticut as stated in my conversation to you on
Saturday, July 24, 2004.
We are dissatisfied with your sloppy workmanship and poor work performance, your inability to
read blueprints,not bringing your own tools,bringing your son onto the job site,your bad work
habits such as only working a few hours a week, failure to notify us of your arrival to work on
the retaining wall, entering our house without our knowledge while my wife was still in the
house on two separate occasions,hearing a report from one of our neighbors stating that one of
your workers was urinating in the front yard, some serious and some minor damage to our
property, only to name a few.
Our business relationship as of July 24, 2004 is now terminated. You are not permitted on the
property with the exception of bringing all materials which have been paid in full such as:
• 15 tons of 3/4" stone
• Eighty feet of perforate 4"drain pipe
• Glue for drain pipe

Dear Mr.David Gilmore,
This letter is to inform you of our dissatisfaction with your work performance. You have 10 days from the receipt of
this letter to commence work on the retaining wall on 29 Powerhouse Road,in Uncasville,Connecticut or we will be
forced to terminate our business relationship and pursue this matter in Small Claims Court.
We feel that you have not upheld your side of the agreement to work on the retaining wall on weekends. You
originally stated that it will take one month to complete the project. It has now been over six weeks with very little
accomplished. We have asked you for an itemized estimate explaining expenditures and line items,which we are
still waiting for.You have cracked our foundation in removing the retaining wall and made no attempt to correct the
problem. We have asked you repeatedly to remove the dirt in the front lawn. You have placed dirt on the side of
the house and along the entire length of the properly,which created numerous problems such as excessive dust,mud
slides due to rain causing a dangerous walking hazard and vehicles to get stuck in the driveway.
As of June 1,2004,you have received and cashed the following checks.
