Dear Mr. D'Amato:
As you are already aware, there are four(4) vertical cracks in the foundation walls
of our basement, as well as numerous and long cracks in the slab. One of the vertical
cracks allowed water to freely pass through on March 10 and 11 of 2002, creating a
puddle eight to ten feet in diameter and .25" deep. Larry Coover, of William Raveis,
came by about a week later to look at the basement and assured me that someone would
fix the problem. Subsequently, a"dry lock"puddy was applied to all the wall cracks in
an attempt to prevent anymore water seepage. The cement floor was not addressed as a
problem needing attention.
I've been told that it is possible this problem is merely the result expansion very
typical of cement in the drying process. Other professionals have also told me that if the
mixture is right there should be no cracks in the walls, and there could be future
movement of the existing cracks that puddy will not solve. Since the nature of the cracks
as of now can not be determined, according to structural engineers, the best way to fix the
problem can only be known once the cause is determined. I assume that D'Amato
Brothers Builders will properly address and fix any future problems that may arise
associated with the cracks in the floor and cracks in the walls that were filled if it
revealed that another solution is required.
The decision to build a new home was in part to avoid these types of problems
typically associated with older homes. Structural concerns and water damage are very
serious. I'd like to be able to raise a family where there wasn't a mold problem and be
able to at least get what I paid for should I decide to sell. I've been given a good value in
the home built by D'Amato Brothers, and I've been pleased so far with your follow-up to
concerns I've had this past year. Moreover, I'd like to be able to recommend you to
others that are currently looking to buy a home. As a home owner, I hope you can
appreciate the desire to make sure that when a job is done it is done right.
Sincerely,
