The only exceptions to this law are the sole proprietor or property owner who will not be acting as general contractor or principal employer. What to give to the Building Official to obtain a Building Permit: 1. The General Contractor or Principal Employer must provide a written certificate of workers' compensation insurance for all of the employees on their project. This certificate may not be for liability, disability or any other type of insurance. 2. The Sole Proprietor or Property Owner who will n act as a general contractor or principal employer is not required to have workers'compensation coverage. In order to obtain the building permit, a FRM 7A should be completed and given to the building official. 3. The Sole Proprietor or Property Owner who will act as a general contractor or a principal employer must provide a written certificate of workers'compensation insurance for all of the • employees on their project and must file a FRM 7B with the building official—OR he will sign a sworn notarized affidavit onR 7B, stating that he will require proof of workers'compensation insurance for all those employed on the job site. • 4. A review of the gravity structural systems of the sheds is not a part of our scope of services. CLA Engineers, Inc visited the production facilities on February 4, 2005 to review the manner in which the above listed Carefree Small Buildings models are constructed. We have based our review upon the highest design wind speed for high wind regions in the State of Connecticut, which is 120 mph. We reviewed each model shed for two wind exposure categories B, and C. A wind exposure "C" is defined by ASCE 7 as open terrain with scattered obstructions having heights generally less than 30 ft. This category includes open grass lands and shore lines in hurricane prone regions. V2/24/2005 14:28 CLO ENGINEERS. INC. a 860 267 1018 NO.184 D03 Math Wind Force System Review for Carefree Buildings Storage Sheds CLA-3576 Page 2 Following are our comments and recommendations. For Wind Exposure B Locations: 1. No Change in present construction practices for all models reviewed are necessary except the 8 ft. wide Saltbox Model, 2. The 8 ft. Saltbox model because of the cave overhangs require H3 hurricane clips to connect the rafters to the single top plate at 48" o.c. , every third rafter. For Wind Exposure C Locations: ' I. Install 113 hurricane clips at 32" a.c. (every other rafter) to connect the rafters to the single top plate. 2. Install four(4) duck bill anchors, one located at each corner of the shed. 3. Increase the nail fastening along the plywood wall sheathing lap to floor rim to 6d nails at 6" o.c. All sheds located in North Stonington, Stonington, Ledyard, Groton, New London, Waterford, East Lyme, and Old Lyme are in a wind borne debris region. As such, the IRC 2003 Residential Building Code requires wood structural panels with a minimum thickness of 7/16"be pre-cut to cover all glass. Wood screws 214x" #6 shall be provided with each pre-cut wood panels. In advance of a high wind event, the Owner of the shed shall install the pre-cut wood panels over the glass openings, and fasten them to the shed with the wood screws at 12"o.c. spacing around the perimeter of the opening.
