The Engineer conducted a field visit to the wood framed house on May 20, 2015. Access to the existing roof framing was obtained from an attic hatch. The existing roof framing is composed of metal plate connected wood truss spaced 24" o.c. The Engineer conducted a structural analysis of the existing trusses using the existing dead loads of the roof and ceiling finishes and the new additional weight of 5 psf from new solar panels. Based upon the calculations performed by the Engineer the existing roof framing has a live load capacity of 30 psf (with the solar panel loads) which meets or exceeds the Code required snow load and is therefore structurally adequate for the additional 5 psf load from the proposed solar panels.
